There
is a say that as you grow older, your mind becomes as delicate as a feather.
Adorable isn’t it! But what if your bones become like that too?? Every woman
after 50 is at high risk of getting osteoporosis or weak bones. Women have weak
bones compared to men, but this weakness magnifies as they reach menopause due
to lack of estrogen hormone. Some women lose up to 25% of their bone mass in the
first 10 years after menopause. Heredity, deficiency of Vitamin D and
Calcium, lack of exercise, eating disorder, obesity, drinking smoking,
etc. are the main villains in this case. Sometimes even traits or country also
becomes the reason for weak
bones. There is a high chance that cancers such as breast cancer, prostate cancer etc. may
spread to bones and leads to osteoporosis.
Assemble all the causes and analysis; you will realize that one in every two women is at high risk of weak
bones. As bones are the structural support for all of the 37.2 trillion cells
in our body, I don’t think there is need of explaining how important is to take
care your bones.
Why
women at the top? Studies say that the reason for osteoporosis in major cases
is due to lack of hormone Estrogen. Estrogen has an
inevitable role in maintaining bone density and so when the production of
estrogen decreases as one reach menopause, weak bones accompanies it. This
silent disease often left untreated until a fracture occurs or the condition
peaks. Even though treatments like steroid therapy, hormone therapy, drugs etc. is available,
nobody likes to be bed tied or to sustain their life with medicines. Everyone talks
about improvements in methodologies, innovations, and research we always go for prevention than cure...
